It’s no surprise that people love go karting.  The speed, the feel of control and the wind in the face.  Kids are no exception to this feeling.  They love it.  So we are going to go over some of the pluses and minuses about the razor ground force drifter kart.  This cart is made to drift.  Making this cart slip and slide is just part of the fun.

The Good

This kart is the perfect size and speed for the kids.  It can go between 8 and 12 miles per hour.

  • The speed is fast enough to drift, especially with the slicks for the back tires.
  • The kart itself it durable.  The steel tube framing will hold up for a long time.
  • The ride time is 40 to 45 minutes between  charges.
  • The charge time is actually quicker than some other karts at 4-6 hours.

The Bad

  • It is made only for kids.  So mom and dad, don’t jump in and give it a spin.
  • Top weight of the driver is 140 pounds.
  • The rear tires can wear out quickly.
  • While the charge time is quick, it can seem like a long time for anxious drivers.

Other Things

Some smaller adults can be tempted to jump in and give it a ride and it should be okay if you are less then 140 pounds.  That being said it really is made for kids.  The kart is also fast enough that children should wear a helmet so if you buy it make sure you have a helmet as well to ensure safety.

The speed controls are located on the steering wheel.  The accelerator is a thumb operated one, much like older ATVs that I used to ride growing up.  The break is a squeeze hand-break, just like that on a bicycle.  It does not have an accelerator peddle or break peddle.

The kart does take some space to operate.  It should also be operated on a hard and level surface, blacktop or concrete slab is great as long as the surface is big enough.  One more note about a danger.  If children are operating on the neighborhood street, it might be difficult to see the vehicle from a passing car as it is really low to the ground.

The kart is close to the ground.  This has a few things going for it.  One it makes it more stable and less likely to overturn when drifting.  Another thing is that it gives the sensation of going faster than you actually are going.  The feel of going faster obviously helps increase the fun factor.

If it has been raining or is wet out, be prepared.  The kart will run just great, but the driver will be a muddy mess!  Again adding to the fun but may cause some issues with mom and dad.  So keep that in mind and have the kids wear older clothes.  You definitely don’t want them wearing the Sunday best anytime they are riding in it.

Final Opinion

The Razor Ground Force Drifter Kart is an amazing little machine that your kids will really get a kick out of.  The safety and speed are perfect for those that it is intended for.  I think the pros out way the cons.  I also believe it is the ultimate ride for the price!

This looks like a pretty good little unit! I do have a couple of questions though:

My nephew is around 10 years old (less than 140 pounds) but pretty tall for his age. Is there a size limitation for the driver?

Also, I was hoping to the family out to an abandoned bitumen airstrip which has plenty of room – will the rear slicks handle bitumen?

      Jdoo,

Thanks for the comment. There is only a weight limitation on the vehicle. They are tons of fun.

As far as your other question; bitumen, also known as asphalt, can cause the rear tires to wear more quickly. Even though this is what they are intended for when driving the kart. A place like an old airfield would be a perfect place to play with this kart. But you might want to get a back up battery or two so you can spend a good amount of time on the strip before you have to go home. The charges last about 40 minutes, but it takes a while to recharge.

      Thanks again for the comment.

I am in the market for a go cart for my son. He’s finally old enough for one and bugging me to let him have a go cart. I just finished reading your article on the Razor Ground Force Drifter Kart The Ultimate Ride Review. Go carts look lot cooler than when I was a kid and I like the fact that the go cart is rechargeable. I think I’m going to buy the Razor Ground Force Drifter Kart for my son this Christmas. Thanks for a great review!

      Jack,

Thank you for the comment and I am glad I could help.  Please let us know how he likes the go kart once he has had a chance to play for a bit.
